Country Manager (Nationals Only)
Save the Children Japan is currently seeking a full-time Country Manager to lead and represent its country office in Mongolia.
This is a re-announcement of vacancy for the Country Manager position, and those applicants who previously applied for this post will not need to re-apply.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Country Director, the Country Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and representation of the Country Office in Mongolia, and for overseeing the development, management and evaluation of quality programs, including advocacy work, that deliver immediate and lasting change for the country’s most marginalized and vulnerable children.

Qualification and Experience
Essential:
- An experienced manager (8+ years) with significant programming, advocacy, fundraising, and/or operations experience, working in both emergency and development contexts with NGOs, international organizations or for-profit organizations in Mongolia or abroad.
- Deep understanding and experience of project/programme cycle management, with demonstrated experience in formulation, implementation and evaluation of grant/loan projects.
- Thorough understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and at least one of the sectoral themes of Save the Children (i.e., Education, Child Protection, Health and Nutrition).
- Substantial experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary controls and securing and managing grants from institutional and/or private donors.
- Solid management skills in organisational change and development, and experience in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams with a proven history of delivering results.
- Ability to analyse data, evaluate options, and to think, plan and execute intended actions in a timely manner.
- Previous experience of managing and developing high-performing teams, and the ability to identify, motivate, guide and develop high-potential individuals to become leaders.
- Fluency in written and spoken Mongolian and English.
Desirable:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, adaptive to different types of situations.
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s mission, vision, and values, including rights-based approaches and the international humanitarian systems (i.e., the cluster approach under the Humanitarian Country Team framework).
- Credibility to lobby, influence and represent Save the Children at all levels of government and in the community.
The Organization
Save the Children is a leading independent, rights-based organization for children. Save the Children was founded in London in 1919, and is commemorating its 100th anniversary in 2019.
Save the Children has started to operate in Mongolia since 1994. Save the Children currently employs approximately 50 national and international staff members and works in five provinces of Mongolia, implementing projects and supporting programs in Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Child Poverty, Education, and Health sectors.
Since 2009, Save the Children’s country programme operations have been managed by Save the Children Japan.
