MINISTER OF MINING AND HEAVY INDUSTRY, MR. SUMIYABAZAR

Objective: The resource sector is accountable for 78% of foreign direct investment, 90% of total exports and directly contributes a quarter of the state budget revenue - it is the engine room to the Mongolian economy. The sector supports bringing leading technology and safety practices in-country, and often significant regional infrastructure development. However, legislative challenges, few exploration licenses and an effectively licensing system, poor public perception and the cyclical nature of the industry has seen the number of exploration and development companies severely shrinking in Mongolia. Therefore, the BCM is conducting the October meeting as a continuation of the recently organized Discover Mongolia-2019 conference, which will provide its members with information on the sector's challenges and required reforms, and asks the question of if Mongolia’s most important sector is already in crisis.
