Overview of primary objective and responsibilities

The Business Council of Mongolia (BCM) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established to deliver value for the public, its members, and its employees by advocating economic freedom and property rights provided by the Constitution of Mongolia and protecting and promoting the common lawful interests of its members for a fair, stable, and internationally competitive business environment.

BCM delivers value through six Working Groups focused on the following areas:

·         Resources & Environment

·         Economic Freedom & Competitiveness

·         Tax, Legal, & Ethics

·         Banking, Finance & Capital Markets

·         Growth & Innovation

·         Energy, Infrastructure & Connectivity

The six BCM Working Groups provide critical advice and action to the BCM to support:

·         Formal advocacy

·         Political engagement

·         Partnerships and shared value

·         Public education and media engagement

Each Working Group is led by a Chair who is a sector expert and Director of the BCM Board, and supported by a Vice Chair and fellow Board Director. The WG Chair is responsible to:

  • Highlight “target areas” to improve sector competitiveness and attractiveness.
  • Prepare and execute an annual “work program”.
  • Present recommendations to BoD for “advocacy action”.
  • Respond to critical but unplanned developments impacting sector.
  • Deliver monthly progress updates.
  • Support Exco advocacy actions.
  • Grow sector membership and WG credibility/professionalism.

Growth and innovation are the fundamental ingredients of our society and economy. As organizations and as people we are constantly changing and adapting – in ways large and small, organic and learned. New technology, services, and processes are changing our work and lifestyles in ways previously unimagined  – and have the potential to improve our lives further.

The Growth and Innovation Working Group raises awareness and promotes action to realize the potential benefits of innovation. Digital transformation and other technological breakthroughs must benefit society and business alike. Business must champion and enable innovative approaches to strengthening societal education, improving public health, and safeguarding natural resources.

The Growth and Innovation Working Group is cross-sector. Like BCM, the WG represents Mongolia’s key existing industries – animal husbandry, extractives, telecoms, finance – as well as start-ups and new business models. Changing your organizational practices or culture is part art, part science.

The Growth and Innovation WG tackles urgent and timely issues – from information security and cloud computing to digital learning and inter-personal communication. We act on facts, evidence, and instinct – and we learn from failure and persevere.

We aim to:

  • Identify and promote opportunities for growth and innovation in Mongolian society.
  • Share knowledge and practices to enable positive change in organizations and society.
  • Improve public perception about the contributions of business and technology to society.

At its core, the Growth and Innovation WG is a platform for learning, dialogue, and critically action that is supported by the BCM Secretariat, member volunteers, and targeted professional services.
